Itinerary

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight to Scotland!

Upon landing in Glasgow, we will board our motorcoach for the drive into the city center. Here, the legacy of centuries of wealth and achievement comes vividly to life in an architectural heritage recognized and celebrated worldwide. Our first stop will be at the Saint Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, where the universal themes of life, death, and the hereafter are presented. The galleries are full of displays, objects, and stunning works of art that explore the importance of religion in people’s lives across the world and across time. When you’ve finished browsing the museum, enjoy exploring the surrounding area before we check in to the 4-star Grand Central Hotel mid-afternoon. Settle in and spend the remainder of the afternoon at your leisure before our group gathers for a delightful welcome dinner.

(Dinner included)

After a hearty breakfast, we will start our journey through Scotland by traveling north past the banks of Loch Lomond, Scotland's largest lake. We’ll stop for photos along the lake shore before embarking on a cruise on Loch Lomond that will offer some of our first glimpses of the majestic beauty of the Highlands of Scotland. Following our cruise, we will continue on with the drive through the breathtaking valley of Glencoe to Fort William. This afternoon, we’ll follow the Caledonian Canal to Urquhart Castle – an impressive ruin overlooking Loch Ness. Urquhart played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century and was partially destroyed in 1692 to prevent its use by the Jacobites. Though it’s now in ruins, Urquhart Castle is one of the most-visited castles in Scotland. Our day comes to an end in Inverness, where we will check in to the 4-star Kingmills Hotel for the next three nights and enjoy dinner with one another.

(Breakfast & dinner included)

Following breakfast at the hotel, we will drive north from Inverness through the Black Isle peninsula to Dunrobin Castle. The castle is the most northerly of Scotland’s great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms. Magnificently set in a great park and formal gardens overlooking the sea, Dunrobin Castle is the home of the Earl of Sutherland. While here, we will watch the resident falconer demonstrate the different hunting methods used by owls, hawks, and falcons in a series of fascinating aerobatic displays in the castle gardens. We will then head back to Inverness for a lovely dinner.

(Breakfast & dinner included)

Today’s sightseeing includes a full-day excursion to the Isle of Skye, considered to be the loveliest of all the Scottish islands. As we journey south along the Caledonian Canal and west toward Skye, we’ll stop for a photo at Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland's most photogenic castles. Our motorcoach will then cross over to the island and meander through some of Scotland’s most iconic vistas. The land on Skye is deeply indented by sea lochs and no point is farther than five miles from the sea. Get ready to discover majestic mountain scenery, stunning landscapes, and dramatic coastlines! After a full day of touring, we will return to Inverness for dinner as a group.

(Breakfast & dinner included)

We’ll say goodbye to Inverness after breakfast this morning as we follow the river Spey and the Malt Whisky Trail towards Aberdeen. En route, we will visit a Speyside distillery to learn how Scottish single malt whisky is made. The production process for “the water of life” will be explained on an informative tour, and we’ll of course try the final product! Up next is a tour of the Speyside Cooperage where more than 100,000 casks are made and repaired every year for Scottish distilleries and producers all over the world. Dinner and our overnight accommodations this evening will be at the lovely 4-star Mercure Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen.

(Breakfast & dinner included)

We’ll begin our day with breakfast before departing for Edinburgh. Along the way, we will step back in history during a visit to Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the Queen Mum. Afterward, we’ll cross over into the ancient Kingdom of Fife and explore St. Andrews. This town is home to the University of St. Andrews, one of the oldest universities in Scotland and the place where Prince William met Kate Middleton. The beautiful seaside town is also known as “the home of golf” and attracts visitors from all over the world. Later, the tour will take us across the Forth Bridge to Edinburgh to settle in to the 4-star Hilton Edinburgh Carlton for the next three nights. This evening is yours to explore Edinburgh and have dinner on your own at one of the many nearby pubs and restaurants.

(Breakfast included)

Enjoy breakfast this morning before we head out on our tour of the Scottish capital. Our guide will introduce us to the beautiful tree-lined streets and elegant squares of the New Town and explain what life used to be like in the medieval Old Town. Both parts of the city are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are absolutely inspiring! A visit to Edinburgh Castle is also on the itinerary for today. The former home of many kings and queens, the castle dominates the Edinburgh skyline from atop Castle Rock. We’ll marvel at the Scottish Crown Jewels and learn about the history of this important landmark before an afternoon at leisure to rest up for our return to the castle to experience the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. This famous annual event boasts fireworks and musical performances by military bands and display teams from around the world. It is a unique and memorable celebration of music, dance, and military pageantry!

(Breakfast included)

Today’s sightseeing includes a tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse that highlights both the palace’s dramatic past and its important role today as the official Scottish residence of Queen Elizabeth. We’ll hear stories of its most famous residents from the past and present and see the State Apartments used by the Royal Family. The afternoon is free for you to explore Edinburgh at your leisure. Consider visiting one of the many art galleries or museums in the city center or take advantage of the cosmopolitan shops on Princes Street and the more traditional shops on the Royal Mile. After a relaxing afternoon at leisure, our group will gather for a very special farewell dinner together this evening.

(Breakfast & dinner included)

We will say goodbye to Scotland as we make our way to the airport for our flight home.
