Itinerary

Relax on our flight to Portland, Oregon, to meet our tour manager and begin our adventure. We’ll enjoy dinner at a local favorite and then settle into our hotel in the greater Portland area for the next four nights.

(Dinner included)

Following breakfast, we will embark on a tour of Portland, including the spectacular view of the city skyline from the hilltops with the majestic Mt. Hood in the background. This afternoon begins our introduction to Portland’s brewing scene! While beer originated in ancient Asian cultures, Portland is considered the epicenter of the modern craft brewing renaissance. Our exploration will teach us the fascinating story of the city’s transformation into a premier craft brewing hub and the role of organics and sustainability in Portland’s beer industry. The Portland area is home to more than thirty-five microbreweries, and we’ll have the opportunity to go behind the scenes at a few of these premier artisan breweries and taste some of the best beer that “Beervana” has to offer. Up first is Cascade Brewing, known for producing a large number of traditional ales ranging from IPAs to seasonals and saisons to stouts. It is perhaps best known for pioneering the Northwest Sour Ale. Next, we will head to Great Notion Brewing and Barrel House where hazy, fruit-forward IPAs and culinary-inspired sours and stouts are brewed. Great Notion has won numerous Gold and Silver medals over the years, including accolades at the World Beer Cup, GABF, the Best of Craft Beer Awards, and the Oregon Beer Awards, plus the 2018 #1 IPA in America from Paste Magazine. After a tasting and casual dinner, we will return to the hotel for an evening at leisure.

(Breakfast & dinner included)

This morning’s adventure will take us east along the Columbia River to explore the Columbia River Gorge. Along the way, we will stop to enjoy the second highest waterfall in the nation, the beautiful Multnomah Falls, and then visit the mammoth Bonneville Dam. Tonight we are in for a real treat as we head to Cartlandia for dinner. Cartlandia is a collection of more than thirty food carts offering a variety of international cuisines, plus a family-friendly beer garden and The Blue Room Bar. There’s something for every craving!

(Breakfast included)

We’ll begin the day with breakfast before venturing to de Garde Brewing to learn about their unique brewing process during which cultured yeast is not added to the brew to ferment. After the wort cools, their brews will end the fermentation process in oak barrels where the beers take anywhere from six months to five or more years to finish. We will then journey north along the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway to Cannon Beach to enjoy the great beaches, shops, art galleries, and seafood restaurants. Cannon Beach is also home to the 235-foot Haystack Rock that towers over the beach and is one of the state’s most photographed natural wonders. Snap some of your own pictures before we continue on our coastal drive to Astoria where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. We’ll then return to Portland for dinner and time to explore the Pearl District. The Pearl’s loading docks and cobblestone streets hint at this former warehouse district’s past, while stylish bars, chic boutiques, and galleries point to the future. The area is home to a diverse mix of regional and local breweries, making it a favorite site for a Beervana pilgrimage and the perfect place to toast farewell to Portland!
